4th Grade Ray School Students Visit Webster Cottage
2026 – In collaboration with World Story Exchange, Hanover Historical Society, & Bernice A. Ray School
Since 2023, World Story Exchange instructors Scott and Lindsay have led the Ray School 4th graders on a journey of historical discovery at Webster Cottage. This year, 5 classes of 4th graders participated. The artifacts of Webster Cottage provided inspiration for students as they fulfilled visual arts and documentary assignments, including drawing and writing. HHS Historians shared a brief history of Webster Cottage and answered many of the students’ questions. World Story Exchange instructors Scott and Lindsay worked with each of the five 4th-grade classes three times. The first class at Ray School introduced students to the history of Hanover through a screening of archival photographs from the Hanover Historical Society. The second class was the walking field trip to Webster Cottage. The third class was a writing assignment for the students to reflect on their experience. Prior to the start of the project, 4th-grade Ray School teachers brought students to visit the State House in Concord, NH, and the New Hampshire Historical Society.
