The Hanover Historical Society supports the Social Studies department of Hanover High School by awarding a scholarship to their choice of a deserving senior or seniors who have excelled in social studies. The Social Studies department has this criteria: “Beyond having excellent grades, the student must demonstrate an active intellectual engagement with each course, make a significant personal contribution to their classes, excel at research and writing, and demonstrate a passion for history and the social sciences. In addition, this person must show a strong connection with the understanding of historical thinking skills and apply them in the classroom.”
- In 2018, the first scholarship was given to two students: Hayden Smith and Margaret Parish. They each received $500 toward their college studies.
- In 2019, two $500 scholarships were awarded to Daria Gundermann and Glen Passow.
- In 2020, no Class Day could be held, but Liz Murray, Social Studies Coordinator, presented a $1000 scholarship in person to Saranda Linsey.
- In 2021, a $1000 scholarship was awarded to James Eiler.
- In 2022, a $1000 scholarship was awarded to Dill Eisendrath.
- In 2023, a $1000 scholarship was awarded to Stella Galanes.
- In 2024, a $1000 scholarship was awarded to Oscar Solberg.
