7/31/23 – Webster Cottage was part of the New Hampshire Historical Society History Hunt

7/25/23 – Tour of the Enfield Shaker Museum led by Richard C. Dabrowski, including 4 exhibits at the Great Stone Dwelling and the barn which will be restored.

3/30/23 – Author Mary Kronenwetter talked about her novel Pauper Auction, where she explores this early American form of “poor relief” and life in rural New Hampshire after the Revolutionary War.

4/10/23 – In celebration of Women’s History Month, a discussion of Women in Hanover History, led by Cyndy Bittinger.

This was followed by author Caroline Cook discussing her novel Tell Them to Be Quiet and Wait, based on the life of Dr. Hannah Croasdale, the first female tenured Dartmouth professor. This program was co-sponsored by Hanover Historical Society and Howe Library.

3/7/23 – The History of the Hanover Town Gardens, by Sandra Johnson More at the Hanover Garden Club website

11/4/22 – Annual Meeting with featured speaker Cristina Ashjian. In the early 20th century, the NH Board of Agriculture launched a program to boost the rural economy and promote tourism through the sale of abandoned farms to summer residents. Focus of her talk was on The Fells, The Rocks, and Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site.

9/25/22 – A Trip through Tunis History, sponsored by the Hanover Conservancy and Hanover Historical Society. Led by Adair Mulligan, Barbara Fildes and Keith Quinton.

08/11/22 – Hanover Garden Club hosted a reception at Webster Cottage. Members and guests received tours of Webster Cottage provided by docents of Hanover Historical Society. Refreshments were provided by the Garden Club.

3/29/22 – Women’s History Month – presented by Howe Library and Hanover Historical Society.  During the lockdown of 2020-21, a few faculty members from Dartmouth created a website HomeWorks that showcases how nineteenth-century women writers dealt with the challenges of enforced domesticity. The focus of the site was to shine a light on these writers’ works and connect ideas of domesticity to our pandemic living.

2/24/22 – Digging into Native American History in NH. Robert Goodby reveals archaeological evidence that shows the deep presence of the Abenaki, inches below the earth’s surface. Co-sponsored by the Howe Library and the Hanover Historical Society.

11/4/21 – Annual Meeting of Hanover Historical Society, followed by  A History of the Suffrage Movement, presented by Liz Tentarelli, President of the NH League of Women Voters.

10/6/21 – Tour of a Hanover Cemetery – Ilana Grallert of Rauner Special Collections Library took members and friends on a tour of the Dartmouth Cemetery.

6/22/21 – Lost Hanover, by  Hanover Historian Jay Barrett, hosted by The Etna Library, highlighting the buildings in town that have disappeared, from the New Hampshire College of Agriculture and Mechanical Arts to Moor’s Indian Charity School, to the old Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital.

4/27/21 – The History of Conservation in Hanover……or, how to string a green necklace, bead by bead, presented by Adair Mulligan, of the Hanover Conservancy.

3/24/21 – Women in History – Grace Hill shared her story of how she brought classes in movement, fitness and dance for women to the Upper Valley in 1968. Martha Hennessey described her mother, Jean Lande Hennessey’s many achievements in public service, locally, nationally and internationally.

11/18/20 – How a Lodge Became an Inn of Destination in Etna, NH. Dr. Robert Keene spoke about his family’s enterprise in the 1940’s and1950’s, known as Keene’s Lodge

5/28/20 –  One Hundred Years of the NH Primary: Is It Still as Important as It Was?, by Prof. Linda Fowler

11/20/19 – The Nugget Theater and Skating Club – Jeff Graham of the Hanover Improvement Society spoke on the history of the Nugget Theater, Storrs Pond, and Campion Rink. Rose Grenier gave a history of the Skating Club at Dartmouth.

1/20/19 – The Dartmouth College Case – Peter Carini, curator of the Daniel Webster exhibit at Dartmouth, gave a private tour for members of artifacts on display at Rauner Rare Book Library.

9/22/18 – Presentation of a portrait of Daniel Webster by the Dunfey family. Period music and open house for visitors.

9/8/19 – Visit to Tunis one-room schoolhouse in Etna, owned by Board member Barbara Fildes and Keith Quinton. Sarah Buckey spoke about her research on teachers at these schools after the Civil War.
